The neutron transmission calculator allows for simulating the integrated transmission of the neutron beam through a sample based on neutron source characteristics, material composition, and sample thickness.

This tool is organized for top-to-bottom operation:

  1. Select the instrument (MARS or VENUS).
  2. (Optional) Select the nuclear database from which pulls microscopic neutron cross sections.
  3. Enter sample information either by dropping .csv file into the input field OR manually entering the sample composition, thickness, and density.
    • A Composition Converter tool (https://neuit.ornl.gov/converter) is available to assist with formatting complex chemical formulas and adjusting weight fractions.

Once all materials have been entered, click Submit to preview the simulated transmission in percent.
